Is it Friday yet?

Whew, the past 2 days have been a whirlwind. A 12hr workday and a crazy sleep schedule will do that though. I'm hoping to get to bed soon and try to get back on a somewhat normal schedule so here's a brief recap with eats throughout.

Yesterday morning began around 10am with an egg white and BRM hot cereal with raisins, 1/4c frozen blueberries, and 1/2tbsp PB. I used the rest of my morning to take care of errands and chores before heading in to work in the afternoon.

I spent the first part of my time at work preparing for that night's program I was a part of. Work hosts an annual student event where staff and faculty feed students a late-night breakfast and there are a host of activities happening as well. This year's theme was "back to elementary school" and there was finger painting, games, Rock Band, and my event - Are you Smarter than a Professor, amongst other activities. For lunch I had a Greek yogurt with a chopped Gala apple and a few almonds mixed in. This meal, while light, kept me surprisingly full through the afternoon.

Before heading out to run another errand, I had a clementine quickly. I don't normally buy these, but always enjoy this yummy little treat. I convinced myself that a box of these "darling clementines" will last a while and are worth the investment. It's also nice to have some variety in the fruits I'm eating.

I had dinner while I was out running errands - another meal at Noodles! This time I had a small bangkok curry, heavy on the veggies, light on the noodles, with a chicken breast. I only managed to eat half so I brought the rest with me to fuel me through a late night of work.

I was preparing for, facilitating, and cleaning up for this event from 7pm until 1:30am when I got home. I was proud I didn't snack on much besides the 2nd half of my dinner and an 1/8c of raisins! By the time I got home, I had a bit of cereal, showered and crashed, it was close to 2:30am! oy...

I woke up around noon today and wasn't hungry at all. Wishing I could go back to sleep, I instead dragged myself to work. I had a pear while getting ready to help me wake up a bit. My appetite returned mid-afternoon and I had 1/4c lentils, 1/4c brown rice with a cup of my roasted veggies, topped w/ some parm and hot sauce. Yum!

I had another clementine before meeting up with a new friend from my old job for tea. From there, I met up with Dallas friends for dinner at an Asian restaurant called Cafe Asia. I was starving when we sat down and was excited about my Gway Tio with vegetables. No picture, sorry - I was too hungry. Much like my dinner last night, I ate all my veggies and skipped most of the noodles.

Tonight I relaxed, watched last night's episode of Glee, and finished up the rest of this Greek yogurt (about 2 tbsp) with a chopped apple, a light drizzle of AB, and some cereal.

Off to bed for this one. I'm exhausted. I think that the ridiculously cold weather that descended upon DC this afternoon may have something to do with my desire to crawl into bed! I'm excited to get back into the gym after a 2-day hiatus and finally take care of some life tasks after a week full of work!

New York City!!

This past weekend I went to New York city for a special occasion - my dad's fraternity's centennial gala. I was excited to be able to be part of the official celebration of the occasion, eat some yummy food, see my parents and friends, and attempt to like New york a little bit better :-)

I woke up before my alarm on Friday morning, had some breakfast and finished packing. I had some European style yogurt, a pear, and a GF toaster waffle.

Lunch was eaten on the bus. I had packed a GF PB &J sandwich, carrots, and grapes to eat on the way. It was the perfect mobile meal on our rainy trek north.

I arrived in the afternoon and walked the 12 blocks to the hotel where we were staying for the weekend. It was great to see my parents after a few months and we quickly made our way to a happy hour at one fraternity brother's apartment on the Upper West Side. (warning - I was really bad at taking food pictures, except for one meal). I nibbled on veggies and a bit of matbuchah (Middle Eastern tomato salsa) and hummus. It was a great kick-off to the weekend! My parents and I headed to Times Square from there where we saw Hair. It was a good production and it's always fun to see a show in NY. We went to Ellen's Stardust Diner for a snack / dinner / dessert. My parents are a bit obsessed with the place - all of the waiters are in training and auditioning for Broadway shows and they're actually pretty good. By the time we were done it was 1 am and time to hide to bed.

Saturday morning my mom and I had breakfast with a friend and then attempted to get tickets to see the afternoon show of Wicked. We did not win the lottery to get tickets so instead we headed downtown to the East Village to visit a GF bakery that I have heard amazing things about. Babycakes lived up to all of the hype - the goodies there are fantastic and I loved that they even have treats sans unrefined sugar!! After loading up on treats to bring back to DC, it was early afternoon and I was quite hungry.

We headed across town to the West Village to visit Risotteria, another GF-friendly establishment. I think my mom was pretty shocked that I was actually excited to eat Italian food (it's a very rare occurrence)! My mom also loved that they had glutinous things on the menu which meant she could eat something "normal." They bring you breadsticks when you sit down (GF, of course) which were pretty good (I ate half of mine).

And we started with a salad with lettuce, corn, green beans, and sun-dried tomatoes

And the piece de resistance - gluten free mozzerella pizza!! I only had a slice (the rest is in my fridge :-) ) and it was soooooo delicious!

Saturday night was the big gala and we all had a great time. A couple of people from my sorority also joined us for the festivities and it was a wonderful night!

On Sunday, I had to be up early so I managed a gym session (10.5 mile sprint on the bike), a light breakfast, and then finished up my packing. As everyone was heading out to the airport, I was off to brunch with some friends. We went to Rice in Murray Hill which was also delish and then they were so kind as to walk / navigate me to my bus stop. I got home last night, exhausted, and tried to prepare for another busy week.

Day 5...shouldn't I feel better by now?

Well, I've made it to Day 5 of my flu-cation and feel like I'm hanging in there. I'm definitely ready to stretch my legs a bit after all of this lounging around but that's going to have to come with some slow, short walks. My energy level is still pretty low, appetite small, and that icky feeling is lingering!

Thanks to Daylight Savings, I woke up earlier that I would have liked. I'm definitely a person who would rather it be light in the evenings than in the morning when I have to get up. I like my sleep! I wasn't hungry for a couple of hours and made a repeat of yesterday's breakfast when I finally was. I'm pretty full after the hot cereal and a small glass of Trop50 orange juice.

I spent the morning working on the schedule for my leadership training weekend in a few weeks It was nice to feel productive for a bit. Otherwise, the sun is shining through my windows and I'm hoping to start feeling like my normal self later in the day!

For those of you who gathered up some candy this weekend trick-or-treating, I found this gluten-free and allergy guide for candy and treats. Thanks to Elana for finding this!

I had a small bowl of hot and sour soup around 1:30 and then decided that I could sit no longer. I committed to running a small errand to see how I'd feel. I took my dress from last weekend to the dry cleaner as I'll be wearing it at a gala dinner in NY in a couple of weeks. I make a pit stop in the grocery store after to pick up a couple of things I was craving and then headed home. I ended up being out for much longer that I had anticipated and was pretty exhausted by the time I got home. I snacked on a pear and a handful of soy crisps and enjoyed Oprah's shoe and accessory intervention show. I definitely added a few more items to the "Want" list!! Thanks, Oprah!

I've spent the rest of the night continuing my work on my training schedule, relaxing, and doing a bit of cooking. I've been craving brussel sprouts for the past few days so I made sure to pick some up today to roast. I simply seasoned them with sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder and they were delish! I was full from dinner so I didn't have too many but these will be great to snack on tomorrow!

For dinner, I had a baked sweet potato and cuban black beans with bell peppers and broccoli, sprinkled with hot sauce and some parmesan cheese.

On the agenda for tonight: the Greek season finale with some cinnamon toast. I love love love the show and am sad that the fall season is over. Maybe it will force me to find a new Monday night post-yoga routine!

I'm hoping to be able to go into work for a bit tomorrow but it will completely depend on how I feel when I wake up. I'm still pretty tired and exhausted from today's little outing. Goodnight!
